New Project and Last Week's 100 Day Celebration

Parents and Readers of this Blog:

Last week our students presented their "What Country Do People Come From?"  or "Country Report".
Very nice results, the students showed great poise when talking about their countries and I plan to post pictures .(of the posters).

100 Day

The 100 day celebration in our class really consisted of the 2nd grade going out and making a giant 100 on the bleachers.  The kids did an outstanding job, as the pictures attest to that.

Famous (Black or Woman or Both) Report

February celebrates Black History month and Women History month.  It was a toss up when I discussed with the other 2nd grade teachers on what to do.  I suggested we compromise and let the students decide what they want to the next report on.
Now parent's I know that we just finished one report and now we are asking for another. But, because we have to condense our 9 weeks into 41/2 , it forces us to do reports practically back to back.

Your child is to select a famous black person, woman or both and make a report and present it to the class.
The kind of report is again up to you but I have a list of things that might make this a bit easier:

Format: The report can be created in one of several ways:
      1. Diorama
      2. Poster
      3. Folder report
      4. Reenactment
      5. Model
      6. Computer report (power point presentation)
      7. Speech

1. Diorama is a box that re-enacts a famous scene from a persons life.
2. Poster report (like the country report) filled with facts and pictures
3. Folder report like the poster report but in a folder report form
4. Re-enactment ( for the actor in your child, perhaps your child might want to act out a scene or famous speech)
5. Model: Create a model of an invention or item that was important to the famous person's life
6. Power point: create a presentation from the computer and present to the class
7 Speech is like no. 4

Parents and Readers of this blog:

Math this week consist of our students having to place, choose and make decisions about numbers.

Greater Than  and   Less Than <

1st  our students are to decide how to use   Greater Than  > and   Less Than <
for example if  our student gets this problem:

           639 _____ 472

they have to use > or <

           639 _ > _ 472

and be able to tell me that this is a "greater than" problem
( I was amazed at how many got this wrong)

Our students know the larger number and the lesser number but the signs still confused them. We did work on that today.

Before, After and Between

Our students today had to know by 1, what number comes before, after and between.

For example:

                               What number comes after 472 ?       473

                                What number comes before 474 ?  473

What number comes between 472 _____?_______474     473

Please explain to your students to go over each problem and not to rush. Even though they seem easy even the teacher "gets confused"...lol

I found a great website to practice math:    Softschools.com
Go to the free math page.

Thank You parents for all you do!

Parents,

Does your child have the supplies she or he needs for the rest of the year.
Pencils, crayons are in short supply among our students, along with some spirals.
Please check with your student and see what they need.

Thank You parents for all you do.

Pageviews by Countries and extending project time.

Dear Parents and Readers of this Blog:
What you see below is my "Countries Report" ....lol
This is one week of "hits" on our blog site....
A "hit" is someone who finds your blog site and views it .
Do they read it? Is it bad?  No.... Almost all of the hits
are looking at the projects that we do in our class.
I can probably assume that most are students and
educators who are searching some of the same topics that
we have covered in class.
I am flattered by the following and I will strive hard to show
what we are doing in San Antonio, Texas
in 2nd grade.....
