November 14, Classroom Schedule

Parents and Readers of this Blog:

I cannot believe that we are now in Unit 3 in our reading book!  This was made very clear to me when I brought home my reading TE (teachers edition) and realized that Click Clack Moo was not included!
I have 7 TE's and I should have grabbed number 3 but instead I had the former.....So I remembered that I had a list of the the spelling words on my old Study Stack.com  and copied them from there. User id  (mission)
and Password (academy)  I used this last year until I found Spelling City.

The list is not complete and will be finished Monday AM but it is enough to get started.

This Thursday our cafeteria will be having Turkey and Dressing!
Parents could you donate a dessert like a pie for Thursday after our lunch we could go to our rooms and have a slice.    I plan to buy a pie (sugar free) and some whip cream for toppings.

How did the Veteran's Day turn out?
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL !!!
Our kids performed: America, My Country Tis of Thee, and Star Spangled Banner.
I was especially proud of our readers and our students who dressed as military soldiers.

Thank You Parents for all you do!!

Using the 100's Chart for mental math addition and subtraction

I have had several parents wonder whats going on in math lately, our mental math unit is attempting to show our students how to add and subtract using a 100's chart.

Using the 100's Chart for mental math addition and subtraction

To add two numbers using "mental math", we have to remember several steps:
34 + 25 =

  1. Locate 34  then ,
  2. realize that 25 is two tens and 5 ones
  3. tens travel on the 100's chart by being the next number under the beginning number. For example 44,54
  4. Now you have 5 ones travel right on the chart...55,56,57,58,59
  5. The answer to 34 + 25 =  is 59

Let's try subtracting!

53 - 27 =
  1. locate 53
  2. realize that 27 is 2 tens and 7 ones
  3. so we move up the column from 53
  4. 43,33
  5. and now move 7 ones left from 33
  6. 32,31,30,29,28,27,26
  7. 26 is the answer

We still haven't taught our kids how to subtract by "borrowing" or add by "carrying" yet...however even that's been changed to "regrouping"....lol...

Thanks Parents and Readers for all you do with your kids....

PLEASE NOTE

Mission Academy would like to invite all veterans and or active duty personnel as we honor our heroes.

There will be a special Veterans Day Breakfast and perfomance to be held on Nov. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

PBIS Celebration, Awards Ceremony and Parent Teacher Conferences

Parents and Readers of this Blog:

     Parents,

This past PBIS celebration for good behavior was an outstanding success!! I want to thank all of the parents who donated goods, and helped out for this event.  As you know this event was created to award your students for outstanding behavior in the classroom and in school.

Awards ceremony will be held November 1st....but alas...I looked in the mail and I got this letter...I have been selected for JURY DUTY.....I will have a guest teacher pass out the awards in my absence...Remember all our children will be getting at least two awards....

Please come during my conference 12:40 pm, Monday thru Friday or after school to talk with the me about how your child is doing so far. Monday or Friday after school: (Tuesday : Jury Duty, Wednesday: Chess, Thursday: Dr. Appt.)  (who knew I would be this busy?)

I will post the new words on Spelling City on Monday, I forgot to pack my Teachers Edition with all the spelling words, sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank You Parents for all you do.
