Summer

Parents and Followers of this Blog:

A "Renaissance" man is one who observes and studies all things.  For centuries educated people (mostly self-educated) studied their surroundings and sought to learn all they could about everything.

So?  What does it mean for you and your child?

A "Renaissance Man" greatest strength is not just learning but the ability to 'link' this knowledge in his everyday life.  From solving problems (not just math) but everyday puzzlers that perplex us.

So how do I develop a Renaissance Child?

1.  Go to the library: Go to sections that are not just the kids section.
2.  Museums, art galleries, concerts, (even the ones at the park)
3.  Music lesson?   Recent studies show that this develops the mind in youngsters
4.  Board Games;  Chess, Scrabble, Checkers, Uno and if can find it "24"
     also aid in development.
5.   Exploring on the Internet: not just random exploring (latter blog dedicated to this topic)
6.  Watching the news, reading the newspaper, subscribing to magazines dedicated to kid topics:
eg:  Boy's Life, Jack and Jill, Highlights, and American Girl...
7.  Having a hobby, collection, etc  building models, learning to sew..
8.  Playing outside with family and friends, swimming, camping, tennis, badminton....
9. Art lessons and Day Camps are also very good....
10.  Boys and Girl Scouts: Earning Merit badges is an outstanding way to accomplish different things.
Even if your child is not in scouts, look at the earning merit badge criteria and see if you can
try some of those challenges for your child.

Children do what their parents do...
Read, have a hobby, look at the news, work on the computer, go to school and study...prepare for work...

Oddly enough kids will follow by example not by what they are made to do....
