School districts notified about email threat

Within the past few days, area law enforcement agencies became aware of a threat being made toward a San Antonio-area school. The threat was not specific to any particular school or school district, but did allude to mass violence being committed on or around April 24. This morning, law enforcement executives from the area, including police chiefs from SAISD and other school districts, met at San Antonio Police Headquarters to discuss a collaborative and coordinated approach.

At this point, San Antonio’s Regional Intelligence Center (SARIC) and the FBI are in the process of evaluating the validity of the threat and tracing the source of it.  In the interim, security is being heightened by all area agencies. SAPD asks that anyone with tips or information which may help authorities with this situation be directed to 210-225-TIPS (8477).

While we don’t know how legitimate this threat is, staff at all SAISD schools have been alerted to be hyper vigilant about security procedures this week. While attention to security is important every single school day, we all are being even more mindful of what we can do to increase safety on our campuses. This includes closely following all security procedures, including making sure all doors are closed and locked and reporting any safety issues or concerns to administration or our police department. Note that our District police department also is increasing patrols around the schools.
