This week in our classroom:
Math class last week our students were reviewing adding 0, 1 and 2. This week we will be working with double, near doubles, adding in any order, adding 3 numbers, making 10, making 10 to add 9, and making 10 to add 8.
To help your child learn their math facts, I suggest the following drills for you to practice with your child.
Have your child answer:
Doubles Drill
0 + 0 = 0
1+1=2
2+2=4
3+3=6
4+4=8
5+5=10
6+6=12
7+7=14
8+8=16
9+9=18
10+10=20
Near Doubles Drill (just remind your child that near doubles are just "one" more than doubles.)
0 + 1 = 0
1+2=3
2+3=5
3+4=7
4+5=9
5+6=11
6+7=13
7+8=15
8+9=17
9+10=19
10+11=21
Making 10's
ask
0 + what make a 10 10
1 + what make a 10 9
2 + what make a 10 8
3 + what make a 10 7
4 + what make a 10 6
5 + what make a 10 5
6 + what make a 10 4 (Here is where it flips!)
7 + what make a 10 3
8 + what make a 10 2
9 + what make a 10 1
10 + what make a 10 0
Try these drills anytime, some suggestions are going on car rides, meal times etc....
