Welcome Back To School

Parents, Students and Readers of this blog:

Welcome to the new 2014-2015  school year at Mission Academy.
This year, our curriculum will have the addition of a new math program, the return of the Guided Reading program, changes in Writing, Science, along with Social Studies.

This blog is your direct line to your child's educational experience here at Mission Academy.
You can access our weekly homework pages, math, spelling, language and reading assignments can also be found in our blog.

Included this year Spelling City and our new math program: Splash Math.
Spelling City is a program that I use with your student to learn weekly spelling words, vocabulary  and writing. The Spelling City program also allows students to practice at home.  Splash Math is from the same Spelling City company and our class is fortunate that we are getting to try this for free this year.

Please click on school supplies list for 2nd grade here.

This has been a very good scholastic year.

Parents and Readers of this Blog:

Our second graders this year have made significant strides in their education.
The gains in learning from this year should not be allowed to be forgotten over the long summer vacation.
That is why I am writing this blog to let you know that Summer Is NOT the Same Ole Summer anymore.

The S.T.A.A.R. test proved very difficult for our 3rd grade students this past school year. Only those that followed my advice showed significantly on the test.
What does your child have to do to pass this test?

Summer Time Hour

This Summer our students must set aside a daily hour of review and practice.
  • Practice our multiplication table (flash cards, or on-line computer games)
  • Look at the 3rd grade Math preview (more on this later)
  • Check out the Summer reading list  at your local library.
  • Spelling City will be available to the end of July
I believe that our students understand the importance of  putting some Summer time to good use, now with your support I feel confident that our boys and girls will do very well next year!
Thank You,
Felix Fierros
