What is AVID?

Parents and followers of this blog,

This year there will be a few changes to our school.
AVID elementary will be introduced to staff and faculty.
Next, the children will be taught to use the very useful techniques to hone their study and learning skills.
Since I am not very familiar with the program I have left a link for you to explore this program.
I am excited since it is a proven program designed to ready our children to be "college bound".

Hello this is Mrs. Garza;
 Hope you're having a wonderful and enjoyable summer break.
 The halls at Mission are very quiet we are eagerly waiting for the students to arrive.
 Registration begins Tuesday, August 9 through Friday, August 12th; 8:00-4:00 and on Wednesday, August 10 8:00-7:00P.M.

PREP RALLY for all Middle School Students and their Parents
On August 15th we are having a PREP RALLY for all Middle school students and their parents 6th-8th grade from 4:30-6:30. Please make plans to attend and listen to the electives available to our MS students and meet the MS teachers. Meet the Teacher Night for PK-5th grade is Thursday, Aug. 18 3:30-5:30. We look forward to another great year at Mission Academy Home of the Mighty Lynx.

SAISD Registration Begins For All Schools

Aug. 9-12 — Registration for 2011-12 school year

8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at all SAISD schools

8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 10 (Wed) ONLY at all SAISD schools

All new and returning students to the District need to register at the school they will attend. Wednesday’s registration time will be extended into the. evening for the convenience of parents who work during regular business hours. The first day of classes for all SAISD students is Monday, Aug. 22.

Head Start and pre-kinder programs

What is Vocabulary Spelling City?

What is Vocabulary Spelling City?

Vocabulary Spelling City is an online program that introduces, teaches, reinforces and checks your child's vocabulary and spelling words that have been assigned by the teacher.

How does it work?
     When students first try VSC they are are introduced to their spelling and vocabulary words by pressing the "teach me" button and a list will appear on the screen with their weekly words.

     Students next press the word and are told the word along with a sentence using the word in context.  Your child will then finish the list and can replay as many times as need be to become fully familiar with the words.

     Later, your child will be ready to play "learning word" games. Each game selected will help your child to remember how to spell, define, use the words in a sentence and paragraph and if need be help your child practice handwriting each word. ( I like this for our 1st and 2nd grade kids!!)

      By the time your child has exhausted all the learning possibilities it is time for a spelling and/or vocabulary  test.  Your child can be ready for their weekly spelling test in the classroom!

     I introduced this program last year with my class and have been very pleased with the results.  Students previewed their words a few days ahead of time. This year I will be using this to introduce required vocabulary in Social studies, science and Math.....
