The Cowboy Breakfast was an outstanding performance.
Our 2nd graders gave a rousing performance of line dancing on stage.
It was great to see all the "little pards" dressed up in their cowboy duds!!!!
After the performance our class had our own Cowboy Breakfast of Bean and Cheese Tacos...(I didn't ask for donations since I felt I am always asking for this or that...)
Valentine's Day is coming up and we are certainly going to have a card exchange...So keep an eye out for our class list before Valentine's day...

Subtraction with Regrouping
Parents and followers of this blog:
Subtraction is this weeks topic.
Keywords: take-away, subtract, minus, remove, more than, left...
This week our class is going to concentrate on double minus single digit problems...
eg. 57
-8
---------------
Parents please note some changes in terms we used to use(old school)
"borrow" I going to borrow one from the 5 and make 7 a 17.
we now say " regroup" We are going to move 1 ten from 5 and add 10 to 7, to make 17...
As you know the regrouping (borrowing) part is a difficult process to understand but with
practice I know your child will succeed.
Monday and Tuesday we will have practice worksheets on subtraction.
Wednesday we will resume with Unit 9...

Happy New Year -2011
This year our 2nd grade class was asked (by Mrs Garza) to perform for the Mission Academy Cowboy Breakfast. (January 28?) As soon as I get updated on what are performance is going to be I'll let you know.
Math Unit 8: This math unit will deal with carrying. We call carrying 'regrouping'... Iknow, I know, but for some reason regrouping works.Be patient, this is critical time in Math development, but I think we will do alright...
8.1 Finding the closest ten: Rounding to the nearest 10
hint if the one is 5 or larger go with the largest 10
eg 47 is about 50
57 is about 60
smaller than 5, go with the smaller 10
eg 44 is about 40
32 is about 30
I have the students write both tens:
66 (60----------------70)
then figure the closest 10
66 is about 70
Reading:
Same story as last week: Officer Buckle and Gloria
Spelling: Same words, different assignments
Language: Paragraph using at least 5 spelling words to describe their Christmas.
Social Studies: Created a calendar to mark major Holidays and important dates from now till May.
Ellen Ochoa questions.
